"The “Maggio delle Ragazze” of Riolunato (Italy) is a far flung in the past old popular tradition which celebrates the coming back of the good season, and is celebrated in two moments: the night between the 30th April and the 1st May, and on the second Sunday of May. This tradition is handed down from one generation to another, and is performed by the maggiolanti (young singers, musicians and dancers). During the night themaggiolanti go around the village singing goodwishing songs and ambasciate to fancied to be fiancées; while on Sunday the villagers present themwith food and drinks which, brought to the square, are shared amid songs and dances."
